Welcome to the 2012 swim season at the Montvale Swim Club. Chris Moran will once again be the club’s manager for the 2012 season; this will be Chris’s 13th season with us. Chris will have Steve Wren as his first assistant manager. Brianne Niego will be returning as second assistant manager and as our swim team coach for the 2012 season.
The 2011 season proved to be a good season for new members but was a challenging season when it came to prior members paying dues for the 2011 swim season. We had a total of 71 members who paid their annual dues in 2010, that did not join in 2011. In the past we typically see between 15-20 families that do not pay their dues from season to season. This combined with two significant capital expenditures that need to be addressed (more about this below) has required the Board of Trustees to require an assessment payment from each MSC Member of $100 for the 2012 season. This payment is in addition to the annual membership dues that are below. We will hold the 2012 dues at their 2011 rates, highlighted below until April 30th. After April 30th the annual dues will go up for all three Membership Classes – Cost of Annual Dues are below: Dues Paid by April 30, 2012 2012 Family Membership $460.00 2012 Single Membership $300.00 2012 Senior Membership $125.00 Member Assessment $100.00** Paid After April 30, 2012 2012 Family Membership $495.00 2012 Single Membership $325.00 2012 Senior Membership $145.00 Member Assessment $100.00** We had well over half of the membership pay by credit card in 2011, so our annual season registration and payment of membership dues will once again offer that option via PayPal. You can access PayPal by going to the Montvale Swim Club web site – www.montvaleswimclub.org, which is where you will find the information you need for paying by credit card. Please note that you will need to have a PayPal Account or set one up to use the credit card option. If you are going to pay by check please forward your payment to the swim club’s PO Box: MSC P.O. Box 306 Montvale, NJ 07645 Open House May 12th We will be at the club on Saturday May 12th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for members that need new photo’s or would like to have their cards stamped prior to the start of the 2012 season. We will also accept payment from members that have not submitted prior to the April 30th early payment deadline. Please bring your printed receipt (for credit card payments) and your membership cards the first time you visit the club so that we can place a 2012 sticker on them. We will also give you a copy of your 2012 invoice for your records. Capital Expenditures As mentioned above in this letter the MSC is facing two significant capital expenditures in 2012. The first one is a federal law change that requires all public pool’s to meet enhanced ADA (American Disability Act) access requirements. We will need to add: * A lift and hand rails for the large pool * An access ramp in the kiddie pool * Update or create a new bathroom and shower that meets ADA code requirements * Add additional access to the club We have met and have asked the town council for financial aid to help the club meet these expenses, which total over $45,000.00 when you include the addition of a new ‘family’ bathroom that will meet all of the ADA requirements and can be used by the entire membership base. The town is considering helping us, however if they do assist it will be in the form of a long-term loan and not a grant. We plan on meeting all of the ADA requirements noted above, except the bathroom renovation, which is planned for the 2013 season. We are also faced with the imminent replacement of our filtration system. Our ‘chlorine tanks’ were installed at the end of 1979, which we are going on our 33rd season, well beyond their normal life cycle. The tanks were working perfectly for the 2011 season and we anticipate no issues for the season coming, but we know that we are pushing them well beyond their normal wear and must seriously consider replacing them this fall. The cost is approximately $70,000 to replace both tanks. Our reserve was used up this past season when we resurfaced the large pool prior to the start of the 2011 season and to supplement our 2011 operating budget, due to the short fall in revenue. Resigning Members We have extended the repayment period for bond refunds from 180 days to 365 days, beginning with resignations after March 1st. We are also following, with one important edit, the Allocation of Dues document (enclosed) that all members received when they joined the club. If your family did not pay 2011 dues and you resign you will receive $40 (original Bond payment of $500 minus 2011 Annual dues of $460) of your initial $500 bond payment. However, if you rejoin in 2012, by paying just your 2012 dues (not your back dues as the Allocation of Dues document states) you will be reinstated as a member in good standing. This means that upon your resignation, you will receive your original $500 bond payment. If it is your intention to resign your membership, please notify us by mailing your signed bond to PO Box 306 . Assessment The board of trustees recognizes that the additional $100 assessment that is required to help fund the ADA project, the filtration system and to begin to restore the club’s reserve fund comes at a challenging time for members. The board has looked at additional sources of revenue, such as renting the pool to a local day care center prior to opening on weekdays and has solicited interest from the local corporations for pre-opening use. If anyone has other ideas on how to raise revenue, please contact us at montvaleswimclub@verizon.net Guests The price of bringing guests to the pool will be the same as last season; Weekday $5 for adults and children, Weekends and Holidays $10 for adults and $5 for children. Books will be sold in increments of $25 & $50; giving the member a $5 & $10 additional guest pass value when a book is purchased. As a reminder the passes you have left over from the prior season will not expire and are good for the 2012 season.
